Frequently Asked Questions

Without the bass – there won’t be any music! The bass creates the rhythmic foundation of a song (the consistent pulse of the piece) while supporting the harmony of other instruments, such as guitar or saxophone. Studying bass means learning rhythm and harmony, vitally important elements of any song.

Not at all! You can never be too old to learn the bass! Learning bass is simple and great for beginners as you understand the importance of setting up music through tones and melody. We teach bass to students as young as 7 to as old as 60! We can help you get started with online, in studio or in home lessons.

Even though they look similar, the bass has four strings to the guitar’s six, with the focus very much on creating a foundation to establish the song. The bass is also a bit bigger, but that shouldn’t deter you from playing it!

Ultimately you should be comfortable doing either one. Plenty of people rotate between the two, depending on the type of music they’re playing. We encourage both forms and will be happy to teach you the method that you’re most comfortable with.
