Jennifer
Piano | Organ | Theory

With over thirty years of teaching and performance experience, Jennifer not only created Imagine Music in 1994, but she continues to enhance its reputation throughout Calgary while providing students with fun, creative and inspiring music lessons.

Jennifer often teaches her students the ability to improvise, interpret, or learn various music styles, making them more versatile players. She believes that young students should learn the piano so they can use it when the become adults. Older students can obtain enjoyment, relaxation, physical and mental skills from learning an instrument with her.

She is a highly respected music teacher, accompanist, contemporary pop and jazz pianist with a history of playing at numerous events, including weddings, corporate parties and private functions. Even as a child, Jennifer began to embellish her music. On her first instrument, the organ, she quickly learned how to chord, orchestrate sounds and rhythm settings.

At 16, she was teaching new and creative improvisation techniques to students of all ages. She went on to study piano and keyboard at Mount Royal University, graduating with a Diploma in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance. Furthermore, she completed the Royal Conservatory of Music Level 8 in piano and theory.

Affiliated with the Alberta Piano Teachers Association (APTA) and the Calgary Arts & Summer School Association (CASSA), Jennifer can inspire you to learn and love the beauty of music.

Tess
Piano | Voice

To Tess, playing an instrument opens the door to limitless opportunities. As well as bettering the development of the brain, music is a versatile skill. Whether it is a hobby, a profession, or a passion, playing an instrument is always rewarding.

Because of this, Tess believes that children should be supported in playing whichever genre or style they choose, as long as they enjoy it. The freedom a student has in their musical education determines whether playing is seen as a gift or as a chore.

Tess aims to make each session both fun and beneficial, as her own instructors have done through the years.

Tess began playing piano at the age of five and joined Imagine Music as a piano and voice student at ten. Tess sang in choirs through all her years of school and is a member of the William Aberhart Concert Choir and her high school’s audition choir.

Currently, Tess is at RCM Level 5 Piano and RCM Level 3 Voice, with two completed courses in Choral Music. In recent years, Tess’s love of music influenced her to learn beginner guitar and ukulele.

Vaugn
Piano

Vaughn, a student specializing in piano, volunteers as an Imagine Music’s Practice Buddy.

Vaughn began playing the piano at the age of 6 in Toronto with the Faber piano book series. After moving to Calgary at the age of 12, he resumed his piano lessons with Imagine Music Inc. At present, Vaughn is preparing for the Conservatory Canada Level 5 practical piano exam. In the past, Vaughn played the saxophone in his school band. His interest in music has also inspired him to learn the guitar on his own time.

As a Practice Buddy, Vaughn will be helping students with ear-training, sight-reading, and practicing pieces in between lessons with their teacher.  He will coordinate with parents and teachers to provide comprehensive practice sessions with students on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Vaughn finds great joy in learning music and believes that it is very important because it makes you happier, brings joy to others and is a great way to calm nerves. Music helps with memory skills and the ability to work towards goals which can be very rewarding and inspirational. Along with performing with Imagine Music live at senior homes, Vaughn has also worked as an umpire for younger kids’ baseball teams, and as a reviewer and film selector for the Calgary international film festival.

Vaughn’s main goal in music education is to ensure that students enjoy their lessons; practicing shouldn’t be thought of as a chore. Learning an instrument is about constant self-improvement which needs to happen at a student’s own pace. Vaughn believes that the most important objective of music lessons is enjoyment. The best way to achieve this is through consistent practice.

Vaughn will help students set goals and achieve them.
