Imagine Music is very fortunate to have a teacher very skilled in voice, piano, and drums.

Jason grew up in a musical family. His mother is a piano teacher, and she instilled in him the love of music at an early age. He started singing at the Kiwanis Music Festival when he was 4 years old. Jason started playing percussion in Grade 6, and would eventually become the section leader in a high school marching band when he was only in Grade 8. With the band, he toured to Idaho and Utah, as well as southern Alberta.

Although Jason grew up singing musical theatre, he eventually became a classically trained opera singer at the University of Lethbridge. After finishing his undergraduate degree there, he went on to complete a Masters of Music from the University of Western Ontario with his teacher Theodore Baerg.

Jason’s Professional Affiliations:

After completing his Masters of Music, Jason joined Calgary Opera as a member of their Emerging Artist program – one of Canada’s most distinguished training programs for young opera singers. In his first two seasons with the company, Jason sang roles including Blind in Die Fledermaus , First Priest and Armed Man in Die Zauberfl öte , and Graf Albert in the Canadian premiere of Korngold’s Die Tote Stadt.

In addition to teaching, Jason is an active performer in and around Calgary. This season, he will make his Cowtown Opera debut in Ticket to Love. Currently, he is a member of Calgary’s professional choir, Luminous Voices. He also sings with both the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus and Christ Church Elbow Park as tenor section principal.

Jason’s Approach to Teaching:

Jason teaches in a way that nurtures his student’s creativity and learning by creating a fun, safe, and flexible learning environment. He encourages his students to explore and discover different styles of music while reinforcing good technique and fundamentals. He believes in the positive impact that music brings to every student’s lives.
